Custom Content: How to Copy and Modify an Assessment

Allows the teacher to copy and modify an existing assessment which can be helpful for them to meet their class assessment needs

The Teachers can make a copy of an assessment listed in the Custom Content tab and edit to meet their class assessment needs. Both Gallopade and Custom Created Assessments can be copied by the teacher. 

Copying a Gallopade Assessment

Select the grade level course by using Filter Assessment.  Use the Filter Assessments on the left side of the page to locate a Gallopade assessment. 

 After locating the assessment name, select the ellipsis and notice that Copy option will be displayed. Select Copy from the pop out menu.

A Copy and Edit modal will be displayed. The system automatically appends the prefix “Copy of” to the duplicated assessment name. The teacher has the option to rename the copied assessment before proceeding. To finalize the action, the teacher clicks the Create Copy button. 

Clicking on the Create Copy button will navigate the teacher to the Step 2 of Edit Assessment page displaying the questions in the assessment. 

 
 

Copying an ‘Assigned’ Status Custom Assessment

Select the grade level course by using Filter Assessment.  Use the Filter Assessments on the left side of the page to locate an assigned Custom assessment. 

 After locating the assessment name, select the ellipsis and notice that Copy option will be displayed. Select Copy from the pop out menu.

A Copy and Edit modal will be displayed. The system automatically appends the prefix “Copy of” to the duplicated custom assessment name. The teacher has the option to rename the copied assessment before proceeding. To finalize the action, the teacher clicks the Create Copy button. 

Clicking on the Create Copy button will navigate the teacher to the Step 2 of Edit Assessment page displaying the questions in the assessment. 

 
 

Copying an ‘UnAssigned’ Custom Assessment

Same as the above scenarios, the teacher will have to locate the Custom Assessment which is not assigned to any class. 

 After locating the assessment name, select the ellipsis and notice that Copy option will be displayed. Select Copy from the pop out menu.

A  Copy and Edit modal will be displayed. An assessment in Editing status cannot be copied. The teacher can click on the Edit button to Edit an assessment on Editing status. 

Clicking on the Create Copy button will navigate the teacher to the Step 2 of Edit Assessment page displaying the questions in the assessment. 

 
 

 ‘Editing’ Status Custom Assessment

Same as the above scenarios, the teacher will have to locate the Custom Assessment with Editing status. 

 After locating the assessment name, select the ellipsis and notice that Copy option will be displayed. Select Copy from the pop out menu.

A Edit modal will be displayed. An assessment in Editing status cannot be copied. The teacher can click on the Edit button to Edit an assessment on Editing status. 

Clicking on the Edit button will navigate the teacher to the Step 1 of Edit Assessment page displaying the questions in the assessment. 

 
 

Redirected to Step 2: Finalize Questions : Delete/ Order/Weight

Step 2 displays a list of all the questions added to the assessment. This list also includes questions from the original test that was copied.

To view all questions on a single page, Scroll up or down. 

From Step 2, teachers can 

  • Edit question sequence
  • Edit the weight and/or percentage by question
  • Delete questions from the assessment

Edit Question Sequence

Teachers can edit the question sequence by clicking and dragging the six dots icon to reorder the questions into the desired order.

 
 

Edit Question Weight or Percentage

To edit the weight or percentage of a question, teachers can use the checkbox at the top to distribute weight evenly or edit on an individual question basis. 

Step 1: Assessment Information

Teachers can enter the Assessment Name and provide additional details such as subtitle, course, assessment level, description, and instructions for students.

  • Clicking Create will open the Edit Assessment screen, where teachers can continue building and customizing the assessment.
  • Clicking Cancel or the X icon will close the modal and return the teacher to the previous screen without saving changes.
 
 

Delete Questions

To delete a question, click on the X icon. 

Clicking the X icon next to a question opens the Delete Question confirmation modal. 

To delete the question, click the Yes button. The question will be removed from the assessment but will not be permanently deleted from the Question Bank.

To cancel the action and keep the question in the assessment, click the No button. The modal will close without making any changes. 

 
 

Press the blue Save button on the right to save changes. 

 
 

Moving to Step 3: Summary/Save

Step 3 allows teachers to preview the entire test , save the final test and create Collections.

Saving an Assessment

Teachers have the following options:

  • Previous: This will automatically save any changes on Step 3 and take the teacher back to Step 2.
  • Save & Assign button: Selecting Save & Assign completes the assessment setup and display Assign modal. Teachers can assign the Custom Assessment to any class. To Assign the custom assessment, status must be set to Active. 
  • Save & Exit button: Selecting Save & Exit button saves the assessment and returns the teacher to the assessment list without assigning it. This allows the teacher to assign the custom assessment at a later time. 

 

 
 

Printing an Assessment

To print the assessment, click on Print button from Assessments screen. 

Teachers can click the Print button to print the assessment using their selected printer settings. Once the print preview opens, clicking the Print button in the print dialog will send the assessment to the printer.

 
 

After saving, users will automatically return to the Assessments tab of the Custom Content feature. 

 
 

Editing / Modifying an Assessment

The Edit button is located on the far right of the assessment title and is used to edit an assignment. Its behavior varies depending on the status and type of the assessment, as outlined below.

Case A: Edit an Assigned Gallopade Assessment: Click the Edit button on the far right of the selected assessment title. When the teacher clicks the Edit button, the system displays the Copy and Edit modal with Create Copy and Cancel buttons.

A Gallopade assessment cannot be edited; therefore, selecting the Edit option will open the Copy feature instead.

 

Clicking on the Create Copy button will navigate the teacher to the Step 1 of Edit Assessment page displaying the Assessment Information.

Case B:  To edit an Assigned Custom Assessment, click the Edit button on the far right of the selected assessment title. When the teacher clicks the Edit button, the system displays the Edit modal. 

Clicking on the Create Copy button will navigate the teacher to the Step 1 of Edit Assessment page displaying the Assessment Information.

Case C: To edit an Unassigned status Custom Assessment, click the Edit button on the far right of the selected assessment title. When the teacher clicks the Edit button, the system displays the Edit modal.

Clicking on the Edit button will navigate the teacher to the Step 1 of Edit Assessment page displaying the Assessment Information.

Case D: To edit an Editing status Custom Assessment, click the Edit button on the far right of the selected assessment title. When the teacher clicks the Edit button, the system displays the Edit modal.

Clicking on the Edit button will navigate the teacher to the Step 1 of Edit Assessment page displaying the Assesment Information.

Moving to Step 1: Assessment Information

The teachers are allowed to edit the assessment information after entering into a Edit and Copy phase of Assessment. In Assessment Information (Step 1), the teacher is allowed to edit: 

  • Assessment Title
  • Assignment Subtitle
  • Select Course
  • Assessment Level
  • Assessment Description

Navigate to the progression bubble (Step2: Finalize Questions) to edit. After making any updates, teachers can click the Save button to save their changes or click Next to proceed to the next step.

After clicking the Save or Next button, a green success notification appears in the top-right corner of the page to confirm that the changes have been saved successfully.

 
 

Moving to Step 2: Finalize Questions

Step 2 – Finalize Questions allows teachers to add additional questions to the assessment. Teachers can add existing questions by clicking the + Add From Question Bank button or create new questions from scratch by clicking the Create New Question button. Any newly added questions will appear in the question list, where teachers can review and organize them before proceeding to the next step.

Teachers can modify the sequence, weight, and percentage of existing questions directly within the assessment. The sequence can be adjusted to reorder questions, while the weight and percentage fields can be edited to customize how each question contributes to the overall score.

Teachers can manage individual questions using the action icons displayed on the right side of each question. Clicking the Edit icon allows teachers to modify the question, while clicking the X icon removes the question from the assessment. These controls provide a quick way to update or reorganize assessment content.

Teachers can navigate between assessment steps using multiple options. Clicking the Previous button returns them to the previous step, while selecting any progression bubble allows them to jump directly to a specific step. Teachers can click the Save button to save their changes at any time or click the Next button to proceed to the next step of the assessment setup process.

After clicking the Save or Next button, a green success notification appears in the top-right corner of the page to confirm that the changes have been saved successfully.

 
 

Moving to Step 3: Summary/Save

Step 4 – Summary/Save allows teachers to review the assessment details before finalizing it. On this screen, teachers can verify the assessment information, set the Assessment Status as either Active or Editing, and optionally share the assessment with one or more collections. Once the review is complete, teachers can click Save & Assign to assign the assessment to students or Save & Exit to save their changes and return to the Assessments screen.

 
 

The teachers can click on Previous button to go back to previous step or selecting Save & Assign completes the setup and open the Assign modal, while Save & Exit saves the assessment and returns to the assessment main screen.

 
 

Locating Copy of Assessment 

To locate the copy of custom assessment, the teacher should select the My Assessment option in the Filter Assessment panel on the left side of the screen. Once selected, the system will filter the results and display only the custom assessment that have been created by the teacher.

Previewing an Assessment

The Teachers can Preview an assessment by clicking on the title of the assessment and it will show the preview of the assessment.
